Makes perfect sense.  I found it a little unnerving at first, but I think that I'm starting to like it, as these color-blind old eyes get strained easily with light colors against light backgrounds. Wacko

After struggling with the white background used by other sequencing software I found the black rather nice.  Yellow or cyan on white - these old eyes just can't handle that and I found myself using the brightness and contrast knobs alot.  Black made things so much easier. Personally if I have a unused channel I normally set it to something like a magenta color so it's easily identified as an availabe channel - but this is just my personal prefrence.

Haven't come across too many light strings where the lights were black 'cept for those that don't light - guess you could call them black.

Are you setting your display picture  (your house photo) to a almost black setting in the "adjust brightness" setting in the drawing menu (sun symbol) so you can see the white lights you drew on it clearly?  Or do you have the display picture bright and you cant see the white channels so you made them black so they would stand out which then blends with the black sequence screen.

My channels are the lights actual color and I have the adjust brightness all the way to the left like 1-2 which almost completely blacks out the pictures, I can just see a light outline of my house.

The reason for the black backdrop is because black is the absence of light... darkness... lights off.

With other sequencers having a gray or white background, it always looked like setting red at 50% was pink and the ramps appeared as a "fade to white".  It just made more sense to show the actual color of the light bulbs at a given setting on the grid (the intention is to set the channel to the color of the strands).  Since there is no such thing as a black light bulb (ok... there is a UV light, but you know what I mean) it seemed fair to assume there wouldn't be a need for any black channels.

I would recommend clicking on the channel to pull up its properties and setting it to a color other than black.
