An update...

The beta testers have been doing a real good job at identifying issues as we put together the updated video support.  We're down to just a couple remaining issues which are in final testing now.  I know we're pushing it way too close for comfort for the July 4 shows, but we should have something out very soon.

Just an update...

We ran into a few complications fixing the video, but we're looking at an interim release to fix some of the issues soon.

The issues we've identified in testing have fallen into 2 categories:

1) Moving this and that arround, making full size, etc. doesn't always behave correctly.

2) Some video formats aren't being read correctly.

The upcoming release will fix all issues in category #1.  MSDXM is gone entirely and is replaced with a more robust completely rewritten DirectShow only based engine.  With the change comes several improvements to the handling of video (hey, it isn't a clunky form with an X drawn on it anymore!).  There is also a surprise that you'll just have to wait to see.

As for category #2, the fix for this will most likely not be ready in time for the July shows.  This isn't a huge issue from a usage perspective because there is a workaround to any issues that fall into category #2:

The video formats that are most vulnerable to not being read correctly are some (but not all) MPG videos, and some AVI videos which are encoded with MPG compression.  Until we fix this, I recommend sticking with the WMV format or an AVI that is not MPG encoded.  Basically, if you have a video that doesn't work, try re-encoding it into a different format.  We have a fix for this in the works, but it is one of those fixes that is going to involve a lot of testing before it will be considered ready for a public release.

Some changes and major improvements to multiple monitor handling are being beta tested now.  If all goes well we should be able to make a multiple monitor update available early next week.

For me it happened in both..  When It was appearing ok in the sequencer it also seemed to be ok in the scheduler..  I do recall at one time in the past when I first started to dabble with video I'd get the fixed size window and in the sequencer  but the scheduler was full screen and ok..

As of Monday it was working full screen in the scheduler but the sequencer seemed to be a little 'hit or miss' sometimes it was full screen and other times it was the fixed size small window.

Sorry if this sounds like an evasive problem. sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn't.. but most always happens in the sequencer. I've rarely had full screen on 2nd monitor while sequencing.

EDIT:
Just tested again... Sequencer shows small fixed window on 2nd monitor. Scheduler is showing full screen

I only tested it in the Sequencer.   I'll have to try the scheduler and see if its still a fixed size window.

Is this in the scheduler only, or does it show up in the sequencer as well?  I know the original post indicated both, but I'm not able to replicate this with the sequencer so far.

If I were one to read between the lines does this hint a possible update from 1.0.41 prior to 4 July Wink

The audio burst has to do with a timing coordination thing... because video takes longer to queue up than audio, we go ahead and start that process (in another thread) while Aurora is busy loading the sequence.  If the video is ready before Aurora is ready with the sequence then the audio begins before Aurora gets around to stopping it and resetting the time index.  The audio burst was always there but at one time there was a routine that properly muted it so that it would not be noticed.

I'm going to guess that when we did the late 2008 change to the COM system to resolve some Vista install issues that we also broke the muting and second monitor startup.  It should be fairly easy to resolve.  This will probably take a week to get fixed and through the beta cycle... I know some of y'all want to use this for the July 4 shows.

Vista, DirectShow

It works sometimes (full screen on 2nd monitor) but not always. More often it's the fixed size of the window that was dragged onto the 2nd monitor.

The problem of the short bursts of sound (the media file sound) as the sequence is preparing to play in the scheduler means that this will be aired during a show.. I would think that would make it rather annoying as the scheduled show plays and switches from sequence to sequence.

The .avi file is the media AV file and not the Alt. Video* file..
