Sorry I'm posting this here but I still don't have posting ability in the 0.2 pre-release forum.

I realize that 0.2 is not the final product but Isn't there a version more stable than 0.2.0?

I really like the produce and have purposly avoided any attempts at Spectrum. (don't find Spectrum nearly as intuitive and easy to work with as I do Aurora)

I've lost countless hours of work program crashes because of 'subscript out of range' errors, have numerous sequences that will no longer load because of what looks like GDI memory management / backbuffering issue, and music files (.wav, .mp3, etc) that won't load and cause GDI memory management / backbuffering issue (but do load and work in Spectrum, LOR demo, and Vixen).

If development time has lengthened and release date has slipped by at least a month as I read in a post, are there any pre-release updates for those of us who have per-purchased to be expected?

I really like the product but 0.2 does not seem stable enough for me to get any full sequencing completed.  Loading the workspace never seems to help much either, never seems to have enough of the lost work in it after a program crash.

Just a few questions....

What OS are you using?

What kind of hardware are you using (CPU. RAM, Video, etc.)

Have you tried running Aurora while in Safe Mode? This can pare down what may be causing the crashes.

I wouldn't even have thought about booting into safe mode to run an installed app - I'll try if I really get into a bind. I am learning to 'save' much more frequently than I otherwise might which at least helps a little in lost effort.

Have no problems with any other installed applications and hardware and O/S is as follows:

OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
System Type X86-based PC
Processor x86 Family 15 Model 15 Stepping 0 AuthenticAMD ~2400 Mhz
BIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies, LTD ASUS A8V-E DELUXE ACPI BIOS Revision 1012, 1/25/2006
SMBIOS Version 2.3
Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)"
Total Physical Memory 1,024.00 MB
Available Physical Memory 503.99 MB
Total Virtual Memory 2.00 GB
Available Virtual Memory 1.96 GB

I think I finally have figured out why your account couldn't post... you should be able to post now.  I'm going to move this to the 0.2 forum.

There will be another intermediate release (0.3) before the 1.0 release.  0.3 will fix most (if not all) of the GDI issues.  When I have a more certain date for 0.3 I will post it here.

I am interested in the subscript errors though.  Is there a set of steps that can be done to reproduce these every time?

Now that I'm trying to reproduce the subscript error I can't..  If I remember correctly I was using the box tool to delete and it somehow happened in that routine.. If I had to make a guess I'd say it almost looked like I got zero selected with the tool, too quick to right click and select delete, which probably resulted in a 0(zero) returned to the code resulting in the subscript error, which in turn abended the program.. But that's only a guess...

The reason why I mentioned running in safe mode is to eliminate any possibility of another piece of software conflicting with Aurora. As a "fer instance" Plextor video capture software will do this - dunno why.

From an OS/Hardware standpoint, I see no issues. Am running on an AMD/Asus motherboard myself - with only 512MB physical.

Despite the GDI issues I've been able to get about 10 songs sequenced. I still get an extremely large amout of InitWAV errors, and have at least 2 sequences that once I got completed will no longer load. Now usually get errors when it looks like the audio is trying to load. I can find the converted (.wav) file in the cache folder - even using a copy of the cache file - doesn't work. Sometimes they load but it's rare that they do. I haven't been able to determina any specific sequence of events when I was able to load the 2 particular sequences that now give me intermittent problem.

I think a good amount of the problems I've been experiencing just might be resolved at the next release. I'll just have to be patient and await the next available update.

Thanks

At this point it looks like we are about 2 weeks out from a 0.3 interim public beta.  The major focus for 0.3 is on fixing the GDI related errors in the audio waveform code.

Thank You - I'll just be patient.  I've gotten fairly comfortable with the sequencing now and have about 12 songs completed  either starting from scratch of importing from both LOR and Dlight to seed my effort.

I have noted that I lose one particular channel (4-2) on every import. I match the channels as closely as possible to my  controller configuration then import channels from a completed working configuration. Always controller id 4, channel 2 has problems. But so far I've been able to work around most of the issues I've found.

When the crashes opening audio files gets corrected then I'll be able to sequence the songs I would really like to have in my display.

Thanks Again
Bruce

0.3 will be available to all pre-order users.  Based on the project plan the expectation is 2 weeks, but nothing is in stone (the beta testers could unexpectedly uncover any number of nasty bugs between now and then).

The beta testers got a new beta today which in all liklihood will put the InitWAV GDI issues to rest.  There is another beta scheduled on or before Friday that addresses several other interface annoyances.
