I have the unlocked freeware version of Aurora and I notice when I create a new sequence that all the cells are half size vertically, too skinny to read the label of the channel. Also when I use the visualizer my animation is squashed, its half size vertically as well. is there a setting to fix this?

+/-  keys will change the vertical size of the channels.

As far as the picture. What is the size of your base image?

Have you looked at the http://www.lightsonsixth.com/stuff/gettingstarted.pdf - beginners guide ?  It may help you get started a little easier.
