I was wondering how Aurora runs on Laptops.  Does playback in sequencing run smoothly?  I know Spectrum is always kind of choppy.

What are the recommended computer specs for sequencing efficently with Aurora?

I've never run it on anything other than a laptop, no choppiness issues.  Tongue

Aurora is not as a resource HOG as Spectrum was. You would be surprised what low power hardware it will run on.Smile

Boy do I know about spectrum choppy.

All my beta testing of Aurora is being done on an "obsolete" 1.8Ghz dual-core under Vista. Have also tested on an old IBM R32 notebook (used to run Spectrum on it before the performance issues) with no ill effects. Aurora is THE solution to jumpy progress bars and the like.

I can't speak for Vista requirements as Vista alone tends to be sluggish on anything less than 2GB of RAM, but these are the XP requirements:

Scheduler:
P3 700MHz 256MB
(this means you can have a really low spec "show computer")

Sequencer:
I don't have an official CPU spec yet, but pretty much anything Intel/AMD 1GHz+.  RAM requirements are a bit more for the sequencer portion due to all of the graphic and audio processing.  While Aurora will run on less by automatically switching to disk rendering instead of RAM rendering, having at least 1GB RAM is preferred for a less sluggish editing experience (particularly with the wait for "generating preview frames" at higher zoom levels).  Playback will not chop without the higher RAM, but you'll enjoy life a lot more with it.

As an aside, while it is not an officially supported configuration, one end user has reported success runing Aurora on a Mac under Parallels.

Basically I'm considering picking up a new laptop here soon for my BS degree program. So the dual core 3g ram machine I'm looking at should work fine then?

I'll tell you after I put it on my P4 (single core, single thread) 1.somethingGH, 1G ram, XP Gateway Tablet tonight.

Absolutely, I'm running a 2Gig Dual core T7200 dual core at 2GHz and in playback (XP Pro) it uses about 50% of the CPU (but I also have a high resolution pic of the house).

Compared to Spectrum Aurora kicks serious butt in the low CPU stakes.

Ran just fine on my "ancient" R32 Thinkpad. 1.6Ghz P4  720Mb RAM

Expect no more than 5 to 10% CPU usage if you don't run the visualizer. A relatively new Celeron or better will be fine. If it runs WinXP smoothly, it can handle Aurora.

While Vista can be a PITA, its slowly getting tweaked and fixed. At least its not anything like Windoze ME.

Well, I'm just now able to report that Aurora installed perfectly on my tablet, and runs perfectly fine.
Creating a new sequence from nothing takes a bit to init though.

Damn! Spoke too soon! It was taking a while to load and parse all of the data, so I came in here send the last note, when when I went back it was just black... Putting in another bug note now.
