Im trying to get three colors of lights around the roof. Whats the best way to hang these and what kind of clips do you use? Im finding that im not having enough room between bulbs for the third color.

I just answered about the clips over on the D-Light forum, but since the question is longer here...

I run six colors of C6.  You mentioned over on D-Light that you are using minis, so I assume you aren't caring about the orientation.  I simply stretch them out (the colors will vary wildly by length you'll discover) and spin them as needed to tighten/loosen them to equalize the lengths, then apply zip ties about every two feet.  With minis it doesn't really matter if some of the bulbs end up in "clusters" while other don't.  I call them superstrands, others call them light garlands.  I clip the wire bundle, not the bulbs, with the basic cheap plastic clips they sell at Lowe's that go under the shingles.  One clip every 18 inches works best to prevent sagging (the lights will stretch out in the sun).  Use extra clips where sets join (holding the extra weight of the cord/plug bundle).

i guess my problem might be that im trying to put a clip on every bulb so that i can keep equal spacing and straight rows. maybe i should just  let them be free to point where they want... And the way u explain using zip ties looks pretty good from the ground?

Use the little ones (3 or 4 inch).  I couldn't imagine trying to aim individual mini lights.  C7 or C9 (1 foot spacing), yes, but minis... wow that is a lot of work.

I used these wire tie anchors that I bought at HD. they are self addhesive which is great while you run a stainless steel screw into the hole in the center. I put them under the over hangs of my house. This way I am not using any gutter clips we have pretty high winds in Rochester NY and the lights kept flipping into the gutter and I had to go up to the 2nd story on a ladder to flip them out and reattach. I have 3 strings of lights all wire tied together (red, white, and green) C-7 and they hold fine

yep it seems to be pretty common that last years lights and the 720 clips that i used for the first color is over kill on minis. But now that ive got two colors on with 1440 clips i really feel like a dummy but i guess ill keep fighting with the next color and clips(hate to change it now).
Plus the 25 degrees with the 28 mph gusty wind makes it all worth the while... I guess  Ha Ha

A friend of mine was finishing my gutters this morning as I left for work... kinda felt bad about that, but thanked him big time.  We went from 1 row of c7's last yeat to 3 colors, 1 row of each, this year, with a gutter clip on each.  Thats 4 sets of 70 for 280 lights per color and 840 lights/clips total on my gutters this year... hope its worth it when they come on :)

Next year I am gonna go with the PVC methos and attach all my lights to it, then just hang it on my gutters :)
