Well this year's show was going good. Only about 2 - 3 inches of snowfall late last night followed by sleet then rain. No snow plows down the street the last snowfall but they sure found their way down the street during the wee hours of this morning!
Even though nothing took a direct plow hit (things should have been far enough away) they took out my donation box and a few other items enough that I had to tear apart that section of the display (while we were getting 2 inches of rain) and bring things in for a quick repair. At least I believe it was the snow plow - there's some things that got pretty dented and bent up.
I guess the bright spot is that not a single bulb appears to have broken.
Pretty soon I'll start painting plows on the donation box adding one everytime it gets taken out by a plow.

If all your display is NOT on the city right-of-way; you need to videotape the bum in the act, then tell the city you plan to file charges under the Hate Crime laws, vandalism, criminal trespass, and aggravated ignorance.

Funny thing is the donation box is right next to the mail box the same distance from the curb - they miss the mail box. It's just not concreted into the ground (yet ). Video camera is mounted on the donation box post. It's a shame I wasn't recording the video, I'll bet it would have been a cool video clip. It took a pretty hard hit and survived remarkably well considering.
Although things are fairly stable I'll be rethinking some of the curb-side portions of the display for next year making things a bit more plow proof. Sometimes it's not really the plow but the weight of the slush and snow flying off the plow. And the distance that stuff flies is sometimes dependent upon who's driving the plow. Some things were moved back a bit after experience some of the same last year. Just one of those things we in the colder, snowy regions need to contend with.
Despite the work to repair the damage I can still find the humor. There were enough foot prints around the box to see that someone tried to set it back up and make it look like nothing happened. A bit hard with things busted, twisted, dented, and hanging.
It's things like this that help make the display memorable.
