Topic: will ACx8 work if set to ACx16? Posted: 20 Oct 2008 at 11:48am |
I am trying to get my channels changed from a downloaded sequence. I had problems with the bulk editor, so now i am doing it manually.
The question is if I leave the original channels set at ACx16 device, and I just use my ACx8 devices with it, does it still communicate? Or do I have to definitely change the channels all to ACx8? Is there any quick way to do this? Thanks |

To answer both of your questions:
1. Yes and No... As long as you aren't sending the same command to a channel in bank 0 (1-8) and bank 1 (9-16) at the exact same time then it will work. If you are sending the same command to both banks your results may be hit or miss.
2. If you click on a channel to change its properties and then change the device type from ACx16 to ACx8, you will get a dialog warning you that all channels will be receiving the new device type when you save the changes. All of the channels for that device ID will inherit the new ACx8 type. Presently there isn't any logic to complain about the 9-16 channels so they will wind up being ignored.
If you are trying to split an ACx16 into two ACx8 controllers the easiest way is to edit the device and channel (make them two controllers and within the 1-8 channel rance) in the bulk channel editor and then use channel properties to change the device type to ACx8.
